How DOES Macron’s wife defy her age? Experts claim hair extensions, veneers, designer style and some very subtle …

For years, our continental neighbours have been applauded as chic, slim and poised – all achieved seemingly without effort – and Emmanuel Macron’s wife Brigitte is certainly one of them.

She may be more than 24 years older than her husband, France’s president-elect, but Macron’s wife Brigitte looks much younger than her 64 years.

Standing by her husband’s side as they celebrated on the stage at his victory rally outside the Louvre in Paris, Brigitte Trogneux was the epitome of glamour.

The former teacher, who is a grandmother, displayed a youthful glow and bouncy blonde locks as she beamed on stage next to the husband she met after he starred in one of her plays at Jesuit school Lycee La Providence in Amiens.

So what’s her secret? From her chic sartorial choices to her slim figure, FEMAIL spoke to the best experts in the business to reveal what could be keeping mother-of-three Brigitte’s youth in check.

Whilst Brigitte has never discussed her beauty regime nor admitted to having any treatments, Dr Ross Perry, founder of Cosmedics clinics, believes her age-defying good looks are all down to her slim and athletic figure and smart, youthful hair cut that envelops her face and neck and hides any signs of ageing.

Other experts, meanwhile, believe she may have had veneers, Botox and even a mini face lift.

THE YOUTHFUL STYLE

As well as her meticulous approach to beauty, Brigitte has an eye for youthful style, too.

Yesterday, the former teacher plumped for chic navy jeans, a zip-up jumper and a trendy blue coat with metallic collar – an outfit that would also be favoured by a much younger woman.

Discussing her trim figure, Matt Fiddes says she looks healthy and does not appear to be abusing exercise in any way. She looks like she has clearly been working out as she is toned and possibly on a sensible clean diet,’ he said

‘She dresses youthfully by wearing classic, well-tailored and feminine styles – such as the shift dress – to suit her shape. She also swears by skinny jeans, a style usually favoured by women half her age,’ she said.

‘Her simple styling – think tailored jackets, clean lined blouses and figure-hugging trousers – combined with an understated neutral colour palette ensures an elegant and well coordinated wardrobe for every occasion.’

Chantelle says Brigitte also understands which areas of her body to play up and disguise. ‘This gives her a sense of having that self-assured inner confidence – she really makes the most of her individuality and plays to a formula that works every time.’

Writing for the Telegraph, Kate Finnigan said Brigitte has the ‘wow factor’ when it comes to her wardrobe. She said: ‘You’re as likely to see her in a pair of skintight leather trousers and stilettos as a sky blue pea coat and a flouncy boho scarf. Or a lacey white over-the-knee shift and – scandal – shiny black sheer tights. White dress, black sheer tights? I’d never recommend that combination. It shouldn’t work. But somehow Trogneux comes away as the woman with the wow-factor.’

Delphine de Canecaude, a Paris-based art director, told L’Express: ‘She’s rock’n’roll. Not for a second does she say, “I’m 63, so I cannot wear short skirts.” Twelve-inch heels, sleeveless dresses, leather trousers, she dares everything.’

THE FULL HEAD OF BOUNCY HAIR

According to research, a third of women develop hair loss to some degree by the age of 50.

However, with her bouncy, thick locks, Brigitte certainly has no such worries.

Hairdressers believe she could be getting a helping hand in the hair department – with some saying she could well have turned to hair extensions to boost her locks.

A stylist at Larry King’s salon said: ‘Her style is defined by her youthful, soft and undone hairstyle rather than a classic style and old fashioned blowdry.

‘She’s gone for a modern bob, with a flattering full textured fringe and face framing highlights.

‘She may also have added a few extensions underneath to add a thicker, textured, finish.’

Rob Fitch, principle stylist at Josh Wood Atelier, said her bangs and off the shoulder hair are perfect for her age and really frame her face.

‘Her hair looks thick and voluminous, which keeps her looking youthful,’ he said. ‘This is also helped by the styling, which is slightly on the messier side, adding a fresh and young sensibility to the style. For instance, if she was to have a classic or formal blow dry it could actually add years and have the opposite effect.’

Katie Denn, colourist at Daniel Hersheson, Harvey Nichols, said Brigette’s hair colour is definitely key to her youthful looks.

She explained: ‘The shades of blonde are defined, creating both dimension and depth. She’s been clever too, covering any potential white hairs by painting her base, keeping it light and not too blonde to complement her skin tone.’

Sharing her advice for anyone hoping to achieve the same look, she explained how as you grow older, you want to stay away from ashy white tones as it can just end up looking dull and grey – having the reverse effect of ageing you.

She added: ‘Along with her base colour, Brigitte also has highlights to keep her hair looking fresh. Again, it’s important to not go too blonde and to introduce a range of different hues to the hair. The trick is keeping enough definition between the high and low lights, creating that dimension and illusion of youthful hair.’

THE YOUTHFUL LOOK

With its youthful, plump glow, it’s clear that Brigitte takes good care of her skin.

Dr Ifeoma Ejikeme, Consultant Physician at UCLH and Medical Director of Adonia Medical Clinic, notes that she has a ‘beautiful bone structure’ and her plump skin points to a good skincare regimen – one of the most important factors in ageing well.

Whilst she’s never admitted to having any cosmetic surgery, some experts believe that Brigitte could have had some help.

Cosmetic surgeon Dr Julian de Silva said: ‘Clearly Brigitte has made a concerted effort to look after her appearance and could easily pass for 10 years younger than her actual age of 64.

‘Her skin appears taut and relatively line-free around and under the eyes and across her forehead. She has got lines around the mouth and corners of the eyes but this is clearly down to the fact that she has a very expressive face.

‘It is possible that she may have used some injectables, Botox and/or fillers, in the past but if she has their use has been done subtly and to good effect.’

Dr Tatiana Lapa, medical director at The Studio Clinic, said Brigitte’s youthful look is ‘very likely’ to have come from aesthetic enhancements.

She said: ‘She almost certainly has had a tear trough treatment, which aims to smooth out the under eye area to make you look fresher, well-rested and brighter.

‘Brigitte looks as though she has complemented this with cheek enhancement to lift and rejuvenate the mid face region. She also most likely treats her Nasolabial folds and Marionette lines with structural dermal fillers to smooth out the area and give a younger appearance to the face.

‘She more than likely also has Botox in the frown line to give he face a smoother, wrinkle -free look.’

Dr Ifeoma Ejikeme added: ‘The lateral parts of her nose suggests at some point she may have had a nose refining procedure.

‘Whether she achieved this look naturally or with a little help from non-surgical procedures, she looks fantastic.’

THE TRIM FIGURE

French women appear to be able to maintain their slender elegance through everything from pregnancy to old age – and Brigitte’s trim figure is proof of that.

According to personal trainer Diego Core of The Field Training, it’s all in her genes.

The blonde complements her trim figure with youthful outfits. Matt Fiddes, leading fitness entrepreneur explains, as women age, they find it harder to maintain their weight due to hormonal changes in the body, however, Brigitte appears to have a balanced and healthy body

He said: ‘Brigitte may naturally slim because of a high metabolic rate, and her muscle tone seems low which could indicate that she is not a fitness enthusiast.’

Matt Fiddes, leading fitness entrepreneur explains, as women age, they find it harder to maintain their weight due to hormonal changes in the body, however, Brigitte appears to have a balanced and healthy body.

He adds that whilst she is slim, she does not have a gaunt or frail appearance, which can happen when older women do a lot of cardio such as treadmill or aerobics.

‘Her face is not sunken and she has an all over toned appearance so I would say she is either weight training, or doing an exercise programme like Pilates (or a combination of both) to maintain muscle and burn calories.’

Matt Fiddes says she looks healthy and does not appear to be abusing exercise in any way. ‘Weight loss and body toning is key when staying in shape later in life, and Brigitte appears to have a healthy balance. THE HOLLYWOOD SMILE

Dr Raha Sepehrara at Dental Suite clinics believes that Brigitte appears to have had some dental work done to improve the cosmetics of her teeth.

Discussing why she believes that to be the case, she explained: ‘The top front teeth appear to be either veneers or crowns as they have a slight monotone colour, which appears to be very slightly different from the rest of her teeth.

‘They also appear very youthful with no sign of discolouration, chipping or wear, which often happens with age. Obviously, these are small imperfections which only dentists may notice.’

MailOnline has contacted a spokesperson for Brigitte Trogneux and is awaiting a response.

EMMANUEL AND BRIGITTE’S UNCONVENTIONAL LOVE STORY BY EMILY KENT-SMITH IN PARIS

Emmanuel Macron’s ex-teacher wife Brigitte is anticipated to play a key role in the centrist’s new government.

Mirroring a Michelle Obama approach to her first lady role, Brigitte Trogneux, 64, who is more than 24 years older than her husband, is reportedly keen to become involved in issues such as education.

With two decades more life experience than her husband and as the ex-teacher who has shaped his character since the age of 15, the grandmother of eight is expected to play an active role in the new government.

‘Brigitte’s main interest is education reform and she will concentrate on work for autistic and disadvantaged kids, out of the political firing line,’ Candice Nedelec, co-author of a biography of the couple, told The Sunday Times.

When Mr Macron, 39, worked as finance minister under Francois Hollande, Miss Trogneux was the person who oversaw her husband’s diary and this role continued once he created En Marche!. She is also said to correct his speeches and act as an intermediary.

But once the Macrons move into the Elysee Palace, Miss Trogneux who once said she would have preferred that her husband had gone on to become an author rather than work in politics, will reportedly have more on her plate including tasks, staff and a budget – but no salary.

By not paying his wife, Mr Macron could be trying to distance himself from the ‘Penelopegate’ scandal which heavily contributed to republican candidate Francois Fillon being wiped out of the election race.

Mr Fillon sensationally fell from grace when a French newspaper reported that he had paid his British wife Penelope hundreds of thousands for a job she never carried out.

The Macrons yesterday voted at the Le Touquet town hall, the place they had married 10 years before.

The unconventional romance started after the pair met when Mr Macron starred in one of Miss Trogneux’s plays at Jesuit school Lycee La Providence in Amiens, northern France.

They also went on to re-write a play together, which they later admitted was the period when they fell in love. At the time, Mr Macron was just 16.

In an interview with French journalist Anne Fulda, who wrote a book about the politician, she said: ‘You know, the day we wrote that piece together, I had the impression I was working with Mozart.’

Speaking to French magazine Paris Match, she said: ‘I could feel I was falling, he was too…’, before adding: ‘At 17, Emmanuel told me: “Whatever you do, I will marry you!” Love took everything in its passage and lead me to divorce. It was impossible to resist him.’

Ms Trogneux a mother-of-three, from a renowned bourgeois family in the town of Amiens, later left her banker husband Andre-Louis Auziere for her pupil – who had been in the same class as her daughter Laurence.

Two decades on, she is a crucial calming influence behind the former investment banker.

‘Every night we debrief together and we repeat what we have heard about each other,’ she told Paris Match.

‘I have to pay attention to everything, do the maximum to protect him.’

Ms Trogneux ensures he has ‘downtime’ slots in his schedule, and also encourages Mr Macron to network with France’s society crowd.
